Dyson Just Launched Its First-Ever Handheld Fan Today — The HushJet Mini Cool ($99)

Dyson has made bladeless fans, air purifiers, heaters, and vacuum cleaners. But in 17 years of making airflow technology, it had never made a portable handheld fan.
Until today.
Dyson just announced its first-ever handheld fan, the HushJet Mini Cool. It uses the company’s proprietary HushJet air projection system — the same tech that first appeared on its air purifiers — and delivers focused airflow of up to 25m/s, which works out to 55mph. The brushless motor spins up to 65,000 RPM. Engadget
At $99, it’s also Dyson’s most affordable fan by a wide margin. Here’s everything you need to know.
What the HushJet Mini Cool Actually Is
This isn’t just a smaller desk fan. It’s designed for three distinct use cases — and the accessories that come in the box make all three work.
The Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan has a compact bladeless design and five airflow modes plus a boost button. It can run for up to six hours on a single charge and weighs 7oz/212g. It comes with a Neck Dock for hands-free use, a charging stand, a travel pouch, and a USB-C charging cable. TechRadar
Three ways to use it:
- Handheld — hold it like a wand for direct cooling on the go
- Desk — place it on the charging stand, point the nozzle where you need it
- Wearable — hang it around your neck via the included Neck Dock, hands-free
Jake Dyson, Chief Engineer: “Since 2009, we’ve been obsessed with airflow. Mastering air projection, reducing turbulence, and refining thermal technology. The HushJet Mini Cool fan is the culmination of that journey: powerful airflow, engineered for life on the move — bringing elite cooling technology from every home to your hand.” Digital Reviews Network

The Colors
Dyson’s Colour Engineer Holly Holmes: “With HushJet Mini Cool fan, we wanted to create finishes that evoke emotion and context. Bold contrasts for confidence, deep tones for sophistication, and soft hues for calm. It’s about making engineering personal.” Digital Reviews Network

The HushJet Technology — Why It Matters
You might wonder: why does a small fan need Dyson’s proprietary tech? The short answer: noise and airflow quality.
The HushJet nozzle is designed to focus airflow while reducing turbulence. Dyson claims the fan is engineered to reduce high-frequency noise and improve tonal comfort — with noise levels rated at 72.5 dBA in Boost mode, 68 dBA at speed level five, and 52 dBA at the lowest setting. Republic World
For context: 52 dBA at low speed is about the level of a quiet office. That’s genuinely usable as a wearable fan during meetings or on commutes without being distracting.
At 38mm, the HushJet Mini Cool shares a key measurement with the Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer and the Dyson PencilVac — it’s in Dyson’s engineering DNA to make things smaller, lighter, and better performing at that diameter. Digital Reviews Network
Optional Accessories (Sold Separately)
Additional accessories available to buy separately include a Universal Mount for securing the fan to objects like pushchairs or gym equipment, and a Clip Grip for fastening it to bag straps or jackets — particularly useful for commuting. TechRadar
Summer accessories including a stroller mount are expected to launch in coming months.
How It Compares to the Competition
The portable personal fan category has suddenly gotten crowded in 2026. Here’s how the HushJet stacks up:
| Product | Price | Battery | Weight | Misting | Wearable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dyson HushJet Mini Cool | $99 | 6 hrs | 212g | ❌ | ✅ (Neck Dock) |
| Shark ChillPill | $149 | 5 hrs | 280g | ✅ | ✅ |
| Generic Amazon fan | $20–$35 | 2–4 hrs | varies | ❌ | ❌ |
The HushJet Mini Cool lacks the misting attachment and cooling plate of the Shark ChillPill, but it’s both lighter and more affordable. The Shark ChillPill is $149.99 whereas the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan is $99. TechRadar
The trade-off: Shark ChillPill adds misting (useful in dry heat) and a cooling plate for pulse points. Dyson HushJet is $50 cheaper, lighter, and brings Dyson’s acoustic engineering to the table.
Who Is This For?
Perfect for:
- Office workers who run hot and sit near poorly air-conditioned areas
- Commuters on trains, buses, or subways in summer
- Anyone who attends outdoor events, concerts, or festivals
- Travelers who want personal cooling in hotel rooms without opening windows
- Parents with strollers (the Universal Mount accessory makes this ideal)
Skip it if:
- You’re mostly cooling at home — a $30 desk fan does more airflow at a fixed location
- You want misting — the Shark ChillPill at $149 is the better choice
- You want maximum airflow without caring about noise — cheaper options exist
The Honest Verdict (Day One)
No hands-on review yet — it launched today. But based on specs and Dyson’s track record, here’s the framework:
$99 is cheap for Dyson, and expensive for a handheld fan. The value question is whether Dyson’s engineering — the acoustic work, the focused airflow, the build quality — justifies the premium over a $25 Amazon fan.
Based on every other product in Dyson’s portable lineup (Supersonic hairdryer, PencilVac), the answer is usually yes for people who use the product daily. The fan is likely quieter, better-built, and more pleasant to use than cheap alternatives.
Taking “17 years of airflow mastery” into a portable cooling companion feels like a big deal — and at $99, it’s competitive, especially considering the range of features on offer. Tom’s Guide
We’ll update this with a full hands-on review as soon as testing is complete.
